Who or What is Babylon?
(The following is a reply to a post on the forum claiming that there is no evidence that the America or the UN have any place to play in end-time global government.)
While I agree that "the revived Roman Empire will be, just that, the Empire controlled by Ten Kings," but I do think that you are not taking into consideration other prophecies, and you are zeroing in on just the one in Daniel. What others are saying, and I am of this persuasion, is that this kingdom may well be inclusive of America.
This should not surprise you. I recall a lengthy interview recorded in Time Magazine about 10 years ago (you may remember the one, the cover literally had a women riding on a beast called the EC --- and then inside another picture of the beast covered in blood!) ---well, in that interview with the head of the EC (as I recall) that leader when asked about America's place in the new Europe said that since America had her roots in Europe he suggested that American might eventually be a part of the EC too!
And this is exactly the scenario many believe will happen, and thus fulfill all the prophecies such as the one about Mystery Babylon. She is a mystery since the whole continent did not exist in the minds of the rest of the world at the time of the prophecy.
But as to how "Mystery Babylon" can at once refer to several things, well, this ought not to surprise you either, for surely you have studied this prophecy in detail since you speak with authority; therefore you know that this chapter in Revelation that concerns 'Babylon' is borrowed from a great many passages from the Old Testament prophets, and that the prophecies that are quoted or inferred there are taken from passages that have to do with a number of places, such as Jerusalem, Tyre, and Babylon (and others). Moreover, historically even Assyria was called by the name Babylon, as the book of Isaiah clearly shows. Even in the New Testament we have reference to Babylon, which many scholars take to be a code word for Rome (not wanting to be obvious in case the letter fell into wrong hands). 1Peter 5:13 "She that is in Babylon, elect together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Mark my son."
So if the Spirit of God in Revelation 16-18 looked back to prophecies that touched on a number of cities and lands and collectively called them "Babylon," why is it so big a thing if we conclude that the future Babylon will likewise be inclusive of a number of lands and systems? Nay, but it would be illogical to conclude otherwise!
Like so many things, it is not that one view is wrong and the other is right, but that, in this example, "Babylon" is generic, and refer to many things, but will indeed ultimately wind down at the end of time toward a specific people --- but even that people will very likely be inclusive of more than you suggest. And the book of Revelation suggests that this power will at least temporarily exert authority over "all the world" --- not just the old Roman Empire, and what better way to do this than through the vehicle of the UN --- whose base happens to be in America! <_<
Rev 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and there was given to him authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation.
Rev 13:8 And all that dwell on the earth shall worship him, every one whose name hath not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that hath been slain.
Rev 13:9 If any man hath an ear, let him hear.
Rev 13:10 If any man is for captivity, into captivity he goeth: if any man shall kill with the sword, with the sword must he be killed. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
This verse sounds pretty broad to me!
So why then do you make it sound as if there is no basis for America and or the UN in any last-day scenario? This is certainly not what the Spirit of God has been showing me, nor an increasingly large host of others.
